Our team members are passionate about giving back, and we know we can make the greatest impact by providing our financial and volunteer support to charities and community-focused organizations. Here are just a few causes dear to our hearts.
Medical Research and Treatment
The Pan-Massachusetts Challenge/Jimmy Fund
The Pan-Massachusetts Challenge (PMC) is an annual bike-a-thon that crosses the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The PMC donates to the Jimmy Fund, which supports cancer research and treatment at Boston’s world-renowned Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Our CEO, Greg Williams (Rider # 29117-8), participates each year in raising money for this worthy cause.
The PMC is the nation’s original fundraising bike-a-thon and today raises more money than any other athletic fundraising event in the country. Over 5,000 cyclists travel between 89 and 192 miles over one and two days, through 46 scenic Massachusetts towns from Sturbridge and Wellesley to Bourne and Provincetown. With corporate sponsors covering the costs of all logistics, 100 cents of every rider-raised dollar goes toward lifesaving cancer research and treatment at Dana Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund. The PMC has contributed $270 million since its 1980 inception.
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide). In the 1950s, few children with cystic fibrosis lived to attend elementary school.
Today, advances in research and medical treatments have further enhanced and extended life for children and adults with CF. Many people with the disease can now expect to live into their 30s, 40s and beyond.
Since 1955, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has been the driving force behind the pursuit of a cure. California Caster and Hand Truck Company is proud to support this important cause through charitable donations and through the enthusiastic participation of the California Caster team in Great Strides.
Great Strides: Taking Steps to Cure Cystic Fibrosis is the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s largest national fundraising event where tens of thousands come together each year as one community to help find a cure for CF.
